Mascara Mites

This past Saturday I attended a Mary Kay party and I learned about mascara mites.  I had no clue that these bugs even existed!

An example of what mites look like on your eyelashes.

People who wear eye make-up  and do not wash their make-up at night are more prone to getting mascara mites and they are so small that you can not see them.  The mites are usually harmless but if you get a manifestation then it can cause irritation and swelling around the eyes along with your eye lashes falling out.

To avoid eyelash mites you have to take proper care of your eyes.  Each night you need to remove your eye make-up with make-up remover that is specially formulated for the eyes.

Also it is recommended that you only keep your mascara for three months, after that throw it out.  Each time you use your mascara, air gets into the tube which creates a perfect ground for growing bacteria.  Once your mascara becomes very clumpy or starts to have an odor THROW IT OUT!
